This page lists some of the places where gays go to socialise, eat and drink. Given the nature of Chiang Mai, many of the venues are outdoors, though some also have air conditioned spaces. The atmosphere is quite casual in all the gay owned venues. Gay Bars in Chiang Mai Night Bazaar area: Gay Soi 6
The area on either side of Chang Klan road, from Thapae Road is the Night Bazaar. The main night bazaar with its street stalls extends along Chang Klan Road. Gay bars can be found in the kalae Night Bazaar complex, the old Night Bazaar building and along Chareon Prathet Soi 6, Chiang Mai’s main Gay Soi.

Fun and friendly gay cabaret show bar with a smart modern design and stage for its popular nightly cabaret show. The very hospitable staff make Ram Bar a popular drinking place for older ex-pats and foreign visitors alike. Located on gay Soi 6.
Ram Bar is one of the friendliest places to socialise and meet people in Chiang Mai. Run by the handsome Mr Wat, and assisted by several gorgeous and hospitable staff, you are always assured of a fantastic welcome.
Ram Bar has its popular cabaret show every night starting at 10 p.m. It’s a Free show every night and it can fill our bar very quickly, so come early.

Ram bar is located close to the night bazaar and other gay bars on Soi 6. The new bar, since 2015, was designed and built from scratch. It features, a trendy design, smart bar, comfortable seating and a stage for our cabaret shows. The bar is a great place to enjoy conversation, drinks and cocktails including a varied selection of wines. On Sunday we have our Quiet Night, when the music is low and you can relax and prepare for the week ahead.
The clientele are predominantly foreign ex-pats and visitors, but with some Thai customers too, which produces a fun mix. The bubbly staff are fabulous and create a lively atmosphere, yet the background music is never so loud as to impede conversation.

Popular gay bar for ex-pats and one of the longest running gay bars in Chiang Mai. Secrets bar has moved several times and is now located on gay soi 6 near the Night Bazaar. Friendly staff and atmosphere with many cute pool players.
Gay Bars near Thapae Gate, and Loi Kroh Road area:
The area around the Thapae Gate, Thapae Road and Loi Kroh Road is the main tourist area in Chiang Mai. There are a few bars and restaurants located here which are aimed at the tourist market but also popular with ex-pats. Also heading out on Changklan Road

Chiang Mai Gay bars – Chang Phuak and Santitham area :
The Chang Phuak area in the North West part of the city is the area of Chiang Mai where several gay bars and businesses can be found quite close together including all the gay go-go and karaoke bars. It is also where much of the gay accommodation in Chiang Mai is located and is close to the Nimmanhaeminda Road area where the big night clubs are. All of the places mentioned below are close together within walking distance or a short Tuk Tuk ride.
The Santitham area also has plenty of Coffee Shops that, although not specifically gay, are great places to relax for an hour or two if you are in the area. Check out our article on Coffee Shops in Santitham
Gay Map – Chang Puek district Chiang Mai – December 2018
Small neighbourhood dive bar run by a real attitude queen. Fun crowd, mainly younger and very mixed/straight clientele. Popular with some of the older regulars from Soho after its demise.
Up market Kitch styled restaurant with big sofas and comfortable furnishings. Fusion food. Mixed clientèle but popular with the more sophisticated gay crowd.
The Nimmanhaeminda Road area of Chiang Mai is where all the trendy chic nightlife is located. The area is packed with bars, coffees shops, restaurants, cafés and most of the big night clubs.. Surprisingly, there are no specifically gay venues here, though gay people can bee seen everywhere. The following places listed are gay owned.
