A great gay owned restaurant in the old city
Casa Diverso has been open just over a year and has already made its mark on the Chiang Mai dining scene. This beautiful restaurant has a modern design with a comfortable air conditioned interior area and tasteful outdoor garden area.
The restaurant is owned by gay partners, Khun Oh and Khun Lek who manage the front of house and kitchen respectively. Their experience comes from working in some of Thailand’s most famous hotels, and Chiang Mai’s best-known restaurants. They have put this to good use in opening this service orientated modern eatery.
Executive chef Khun Lek has put together two menus, one for Thai food, the other for Italian and Mediterranean dishes. Both menus are mouth-watering and the food is served with the presentational style you would expect from a five star enterprise. There is also a good selection of daily specials. The food is well above average and many of the dishes have a modern twist.
In the restaurant Khun Oh ensures customers receive plenty of personal attention and does a great job of managing his friendly and efficient waiting staff.
Casa Diverso is located inside the old city on Rachamankha Road. It is just off the western moat (Arak road) and can be found by turning left into Rachamankha from Arak road (N.B. Rachamankha is one way so, if driving, you have to go this way). Casa diverso is a further 50M down the road on the left hand side opposite Wat Maethang. Importantly, it has ample on-site parking which is an essential asset in the old city.
Open from 11:30 -14:00 and 17:30 – 22:00 Casa Diverso offers dining options for both lunch and dinner. The food offerings are accompanied by a great selection of wines as well as other drinks and fresh coffee. For Chiang Mai dining the prices are modest to mid-range; certainly not expensive.
Although the clientele is mixed, the personable owners and their welcoming staff have built up quite a gay following. We thoroughly recommend Casa Diverso.
