July in Gay Chiang Mai
After the long and very hot summer rainy season has properly arrived in Chiang Mai, along with some cooler temperatures. Whilst this is a quieter time of year for tourists there is still plenty going on in Chiang Mai’s gay scene. The following is a summary of some of the up and coming events, for full information check out our events calendar for July
Note that 19th and 20th July are Buddhist holidays for Asalha Bucha and Khao Phansa, which marks the start of Buddhist Lent and the rainy season temple retreat. These days are alcohol free and most bars and many retaurants closed.
Gay Parties and Events
Club One Seven
One of the highlights for July is the 6th anniversary of Club One Seven Sauna and Guest House with three days of parties with the themes “Secret Garden Party”, “Golden Kingdom Party” and “Lovely Bear Party”.
Club One Seven will also have their regular party nights on 7th July and 27th July
Ram Bar
Over the last few months Ram Bar has transformed itself into Chiang Mai’s most popular gay bar. This is due in part to the formula of good management and very friendly, affable staff, but also due to their entertaining and popular cabaret shows. The shows run nightly from Wednesday through Saturday starting at 10.30 p.m and draw a good crowd. It is often standing room only so go early to be sure of a seat.

Independence Day – 4 July
Plenty of celebrations around Chiang Mai for independence day, but two events of most interest two the LGBT community are the Independence Day party at Adam’s Apple Club and a barbecue at The Pub from 6 pm till 8 pm.
Bar News
Secrets Bar
Secrets Bar, located on gay soi 6 right next door to Ram Bar, continues to be another of Chiang Mai’s most popular venues in the new nucleus of the towns gay scene.
Recent improvements at Secrets Bar include the installation of Air Conditioning make it in every sense one of the coolest gay places to be in Chiang Mai.
Sabaai Dee Santitham
The start of July brought the sad news that Sabaai Dee Santitham was closing down. According to American owner Noland it has been struggling for months and with the onset of low season they couldn’t justify keeping the doors open. There is still a possibility that it may re-open come high season.
Adam’s Apple Club
Adam’s Apple Club is now under new ownership and has undergone a few changes. Downstairs, the old Metro Bar has been remodelled into De Eva Pub and Restaurant, which held its grand opening party on 1st July. The bar is apparently open from 8 a.m. until late daily.

Meanwhile, upstairs in the club the stage has been re-designed and a new large screen TV system installed to enhance the show. There is also a new sign outside and a remodelled entrance alongside the new De Eva Pub. Whilst the business may have seen some changes it continues to offer some of the best available boys in town if you are looking for some fun with a handsome macho companion.
House of Male
In April we had the sad news that Arthur, of House of Male fame had passed away. We are now pleased to report that the business has now been acquired by the new owners of Adam’s Apple. Word in the steam room is that they plan some major refurbishments to make it into the Babylon of the north. We look forward to hearing more.
Gay Soi 6
Since Ram Bar and Secrets bar moved to soi 6 last year it has been the defacto centre of gay Chiang Mai. Whilst Ram Bar and Secrets Bar continue to be the most popular venues, Orion bar, just off soi 6 continues to do well. There is also Ozeed bar in the old night bazaar building (near le meridien hotel), and G Bar near Thapae gate. To find these places check our updated gay scene map below.
