IDAHO Day – May 17

Today, May 17, is IDAHO Day, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. The date May 17th commemorates the World Health Organisation’s decision to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders.

To mark IDAHO day, UNESCO Bangkok has produced a short film highlighting the challenges faced by LGBT students and practical steps that have been taken in schools in Thailand to promote healthy, safe learning environments for all. Check it out here Also marking IDAHO Day UNDP and Asia Pacific Transgender network have released a new report. Lost in Transition: Transgender People, Rights and HIV Vulnerability in the Asia-Pacific Region is a comprehensive review of material gathered from across the region over the past 12 years. This unprecedented research in Asia, jointly released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Asia Pacific Transgender Network (APTN), calls for concerted action by governments, civil society, development partners and the transgender community itself to design and conduct further research to fill the lack of information about transgender people and their environments. read more here.
