Goodbye Radchada

Another loss for the Chiang Mai Gay Scene

With great sadness, Khun Note of Radchada Garden Cafe announced he has closed the business in Chiang Mai. He said, “for many years Radchada has tried hard to support the gay community in Chiang Mai, but now continuing to operate a gay orientated venue in Chiang Mai is no good.” He went on, “with fewer Farang customers, so many new restaurants in Chiang Mai and Thai customers not wanting to go to places where there are older Farangs, it is hard to survive here”.

However, this may be goodbye but it is not the end. Khun Note is planning to open a new venue in his home province of Phayao which, as an up and coming city now presents more opportunity than Chiang Mai. Phayao is situated 160Km East of Chiang Mai on the main Highway 1 between Lampang and Chiang Rai. It is a two and a half hour picturesque drive from Chiang Mai across some beautiful mountain scenery.

Move to up and coming Phayao

Phayao city retains the feel of a rural small town which time forgot. The very attribute which a few decades ago made Chiang Mai popular and which has now been destroyed as Chiang Mai has grown into an urban jungle. The city benefits from the lake, known as Kwan Phayao, and the waterfront which is lined with many restaurants giving the place a lively yet relaxed feel.

As soon as we know anymore about K. Note’s new venture in Phayao we will keep our readers informed. Hopefully, the more adventurous visitors and ex-pats will go visit him once he’s got established. Meanwhile, K. note asked us to express his gratitude to his small band of loyal regular customers who have supported Radchada over the years. He said, ” I am sorry for my regular cutomers that we can’t continue in Chiang Mai, but do hope my friends will come to see us and enjoy Phayao”.
